A gang of militants gunned down at least eight Hindi-speaking people in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) L R Bishnoi said the militants of the proscribed United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) raided a village at Ampahar under the Bakulia police station in Karbi Anglong late in the evening and gunned down four women, three children and an elderly man. At least three more were injured.
Bishnoi said a lesser-known militant outfit Karbi Longpi North Cacher Liberation Front helped the ULFA rebels carry out the carnage.
ULFA has since last January stepped up its offensive against the Hindi-speaking migrants and settlers across Assam. The outfit launched its latest series of strikes last Sunday.
