AQUATICS / Batra, Nischala bag individual honours
Champions BAC too good for the rest
Bangalore, DH News Service:

Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre, with 638 points, retained the overall championship in the State Senior Aquatic Championships which concluded at the Corporation Swimming Pool (Basavanagudi) here on Wednesday.

BAC swimmers Rahul Batra and Nischala B clinched the men’s and women’s individual championship with 71 and 29 points respectively.

Rahul bagged his third gold medal in the meet by winning the men’s 100 metres freestyle event on Wednesday.

He timed 55.83 seconds. Siddarth M (BAC) and Sanketh Bengre (BAC) finished second and third respectively.

Fine run
Nischala too had a fine run in the event and bagged a total of five medals, two gold and three silver.

BAC’s Pravallika M took the gold medal in the women’s 100M freestyle event. She clocked one minute, 6.73 seconds. She beat team-mate Smitha L to the top spot, while Archana Gupta finished third.

Smitha was ahead for most part of the race, with Pravallika keeping pace with her. In fact, the former looked well set to take the gold.

However, a late surge by Pravallika just a few metres from the finish saw her take the gold.

In water polo, Army Service Corps and BAC won the men’s and women’s titles respectively.

In the men’s final, ASC scored a 7-4 victory over BAC. L Sham Singh top-scored for the winners with four goals, while SK Sikdar, VK Jins and TV Aju netted one each. For BAC, KV Nagaraj scored four goals.

BAC eves win
In the women’s section, which had just two teams, BAC beat Visaka Vidyalaya, Colombo, 7-5 in the third and final match. For BAC, Malavika Gubbi scored four goals, while Nitha S scored three.

For the visiting side, Lukshani (four goals) and Charga (one) were among the scorers.

With this win, BAC swept all three games they played against Visaka Vidyalaya. BAC had won the earlier two games 9-4 and 6-5.
