Warne may not play in ICL
Days after projecting spin legend Shane Warne as their biggest catch, the Indian Cricket League suffered a setback as the Australian’s manager revealed that he is unlikely to join the rebel series. Warne’s manager James Erskine said though the cricketer was considering the offer made by the league’s organisers but his approval would depend on ICL getting BCCI’s nod.

Sreejesh stars in Indian win
Goalkeeper Sreejesh produced a talismanic performance as India beat Spain 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out to register their second successive win at the eight-nation under-21 hockey tournament in Monchengladbach on Wednesday, reports PTI from New Delhi.

Continuing his golden form, penalty corner specialist Deewakar Ram earned India the lead in the ninth minute. However, R Paros converted a penalty stroke to draw parity for Spain in the 15th minute.

With the teams tied 1-1 after regulation time, the match went into the tie-breaker, where Sreejesh emerged the hero, thwarting two attempts by the Spaniards and pave the way for India’s 5-3 victory.

Devishree wins silver medal
Indian judoka Devishree from Karnataka bagged a silver medal in the 78 Kg plus category, in the 13th EJU ‘A’ International Judo tournament Czech Cup for juniors (Under-20) held from August 3 to 5 at Jicin, Czech Republic, reports UNI from New Delhi.

Seema named in Indian squad
Women’s discus thrower Seema Antil, who pulled out of the Doha Asian Games in controversial circumstances, was on Wednesday included in the Indian squad for the World Athletics Championships to be held in Osaka, Japan, reports PTI from New Delhi.

The squad: Men: Vikas Gowda (discus), Joseph Abraham (400M hurdles), Renjith Maheswary (triple jump), Navpreet Singh (shot put). Women: Manjeet Kaur, Mandeep Kaur, Chirta K Soman, Iyleen Samantha, Sini Jose, Anu Mariam Jose, (4X400M relay), Anju Bobby George (long jump), Krishna Poonia and Seema Antil (both discus).

Pak spikers score over India
Pakistan defeated India 26-28, 30-28, 25-16, 25-20 to win the second volleyball test at Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, reports UNI.

India had won the first test on Tuesday 25-16, 23-25, 15-25, 25-18, 15-13.

Akhtar fined for breach of code
Pakistan's controversial fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has been fined $5,000 for two breaches of the players' code of conduct, reports Reuters from Karachi.

Pakistan Cricket Board chief executive Shafqat Nagmi said Wednesday that Akhtar had left a training camp without informing the team management.

Ronaldinho, Kaka back in team
Ronaldinho and Kaka will return to Brazil’s national team for a friendly against Algeria at the end of the month in France, reports AP from Sao Paulo. 

The two had skipped the Copa America won by Brazil last month in Venezuela.

The team: Goalkeepers: Julio Cesar, Doni. Defenders: Alex Silva, Lucio, Juan, Naldo, Gilberto, Maicon, Daniel Alves, Kleber. Midfielders: Josue, Diego, Elano, Mineiro, Kaka, Fernando, Ronaldinho, Julio Batista, Lucas. Forwards: Robinho, Vagner Love, Rafael Sobis.
