The sugarcane growers of Karnataka have threatened that they would stage a massive demonstration before the office of deputy commissioners in all the districts, if the sugarcane factories failed to pay the dues of Rs 300 crore, which has been pending since last one year.Addressing a press conference, the State President of the Sugarcane Growers’ Association of Karnataka, Kuruburu Shanthakumar said that the Sugarcane Control Order-1966 says that payment must be made to the farmers within 14 days of the procurement of sugar but ironically the farmers haven’t got the payment for the last six months.
He alleged that the govt hasn’t taken any initiative to clear the dues of farmers. He also demanded the govt to fix the rate to procure sugarcane. The president flayed the govt that it is sitting idle after announcing that the sugarcane growers would give them an aid of Rs 25,000 per hectare.
