No public toilets in Nirmal Nagar!...
By B Arvind,DH News Service,Tumkur:
However, a visit in the City is sufficient for a person to realise that there are no public toilets in most of the important roads and places...

Tumkur is fast developing into a huge City. Being located nearby Bangalore, the City will definitely see the impact of development and probably, within a span of five years, the entire outlook of the Tumkur City will undergo drastic change.

Those who are positive about the changes, also have a reason to be happy. The City is one among the important eight other cities, which have been chosen for the pilot project of the ‘Nirmala Nagara’ scheme. Also, a waste disposal project will be installed in Ajjagondanahalli.

Path of progress?
All these are administrative projects, which have been welcomed by the people of Tumkur district. If  these projects are not implemented, Tumkur would have still remained a backward district. The Nirmala Nagar scheme, the special package proposed for the City and several other developmental projects which will be implemented in the City will no wonder put Tumkur on the paths of progress.

However, there some very trivial and yet important issues which are also equally essential for the citizens.
The entire City can be simplified into two important sections. One section covers the area from Jas toll gate, located on the Bangalore-Tumkur route, which is also known as Kyatasandra to Gubbi Gate and the other area is located from the Sira Gate to the Kunigal Road.

However, a visit in the City is sufficient for a person to realise that there are no public toilets in most of the important roads and places. Thus the public finds it extremely difficult to attend to the nature’s call.

Important roads
However, one can spot a toilet on the B H Main Road, while coming from Kyatasandra to Gubbi Gate. This toilet is not in a good shape and is rarely used by the public.

It is the single toilet on a 10 km stretch, which was also not properly maintained.

Some of the other important roads like the M G Road (it also has a toilet which is there for namesake), Ashok Road, Shirani Road, K R Layout Road, Someshwarapura Main Road, S I T Main Road, Kunigal Road, J C Road, Sira Road, etc, did not have suitable toilets, which would address to the nature calls of the people.

People have to face embarrassing situations whenever there was a need.

The plight of the senior citizens and women was unexplainable.
They cannot express the ordeal they will have to undergo. Even children face a lot of hardships and girls cannot even go out in the public.

The public have to seek refuge in the guise of shrubs and bushes, or may opt for deserted places, while, women could not even take refuge there. Sick, disabled and aged citizens are also made to suffer.
And also, the question of health, hygiene and cleanliness are equally important. The city developers should have given a thought on these lines.

No discussions
Why wasn’t the matter brought up for discussion in the Municipal Council meetings. Why was it never considered seriously, the public question. Even if such common basic necessities are ignored it is the public who has to suffer.

Soon, the Council would be upgraded into a Corporation and yet, if no measures are taken solve these simplest problems of the people, the people would be made to face a lot of difficulties.
At least now, something should be done to solve the plight of the citizens.
