Zainab K, student:
I think reality shows, though good entertainment are a waste of time. They are all fabricated and a channel to make money. It’s a cheap form of publicity for all these stars.
It’s an illusionary world, far from reality and a cheap gimmick to enhance TRP rating. It would be better if channels concentrate on something that is constructive rather than waste their resources on making these make believe shows.
Dr Ashok, Doctor:
Reality Shows provide good entertainment. The content of some of these shows is extremely good. I prefer watching dance shows like ‘Nach Baliye’ and ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’. Some of the well to do contestants can use their own money to save themselves from getting eliminated but people from small towns lose out. I think children should restrict themselves to watching channels like Animal Planet and National Geographic Channel.
Martin, Software engineer:
I really like reality shows. They are good fun and have a lot of ‘masala’. The public gets to see the real picture. I am sure everybody is bored with the same old programmes where actors act like different people and are assigned to emote in a certain way.
Moreover, most programmes have similar stories and they drag these serials to some thousand odd episodes! For how long can the viewers watch the same old things?
Vilma Machado, Administrative manager: One can’t write off reality shows completely. If they are doing well, they should have some substance. As far as I am concerned, I do watch a couple of those shows as T V is so full of them. There are both good shows like ‘Survivor’ and ‘Amazing Race’ and bad shows like ‘The Bachelor’ and ‘Cruel Love’.
At times some shows take twists that are obviously gimmicky and very silly.
