With a sudden spurt in flow of pilgrims at Sabarimala by Sunday evening police stepped up crowd control measures restricting the onward journey of thousands at base camp Pampa.
The sandbanks of Pampa was overflowing with pilgrims prompting police to restrict their upward trek to ease rush at the uphill Sannidhanam, police sources said.
Though there had been a lull during the day time, by the evening the pilgrims continued to pour in thousands to Pampa making it a tough task to manage the crowd, sources said. Several pilgrims were injured by overcrowding in the temple premises on Saturday.
