Civil aviation minister Praful Patel, however, said on Monday that his ministry has received no proposal in this regard.
He said, “We have received no proposal in this regard. If the Maharashtra government wants and if they send a proposal, then we will see. We want all parts of the country to develop and infrastructure should come up in all parts of the country.”
The issue came up at a meeting that Patel had with Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh although what transpired during the discussions was not known.
Amravati, the home town of Pratibha Patil, has an airstrip that required upgrading. The National Highway put off its plans and took a decision on Saturday last to build a new airport which would enable the President and her family to fly directly to their hometown.
Meanwhile, Patel announced that a committee has been formed to frame a policy on greenfield airports in the country.
DIAL in trouble
As airport land issue is a raising subject in many cities, the 43-acre land that the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) wants to develop, has ran into rough weather. DIAL has drawn up a financing plan to charge high deposits and low rentals from the winning bidder but the Ministry has decided to consider the Attorney General’s opinion. “He is the law officer appointed by the government and we will go by his opinion,” Patel said.
GMR Group, which runs DIAL said on Monday that it has not received any communication from the Civil Aviation Ministry with regard to property development in the region.
