Middlesbrough inflicted leaders Arsenal’s first Premier League defeat of the season with a 2-1 win at the Riverside on Sunday. The loss left Arsenal just a point ahead of second-placed Manchester United.
In the day’s other matches, Bolton heaped more misery on second-bottom Wigan with a 3-1 win.
Tottenham secured only their third league win of the season with a 2-1 success against a 10-men Manchester City.
West Ham continued their fine recent form with a 1-0 win away to Blackburn Rovers.
Stewart Downing, with a fourth-minute penalty, and Tuncay Sanli, with a close-range strike 16 minutes from time, scored for Middlesbrough.
Tomas Rosicky pulled a goal back in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
At White Hart Lane, Tottenham took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Pascal Chimbonda scoredHowever, just after the hour mark City were level when Rolando Bianchi headed in a corner from Martin Petrov. But, Spurs went ahead again in the 83rd minute through substitute Jermain Defoe.
Bolton went ahead through Paul Scharner’s own goal but Denny Landzaat restored parity for Wigan.

At Ewood Park, Dean Ashton came off the bench to score the only goal of the game as West Ham overcame Blackburn Rovers.
