In Bharathnatyam-three, classical dance-2, Koochipudi-1, flute-0. These are not the marks of the student in an examination . However, it is the number of participants who participated in the Yuvajanothsava held at Scouts and Guides Bhavana. The district-level Yuvajanotsava organised jointly by the Zilla Panchayat, Youth Service and Sports department, Dakshina Kannada Sahithya Parishath, Jilla Yuvajana Okkuta saw a poor response.
However, in mono act, veena recitation, Mridanga, Manipuri, Kathak and Odissy dance competitions, the participation was nil. There were handful of audiences to cheer the participants. The number of participants in 19 competitions was only 25.
Youth services and Sports department officer said “we have made lot of preparations for the Yuvajanothsava this year. Invitations had been sent to all the colleges and youth organisations in advance. However, the response is poor.”
Eligibility
Students or members of a youth organisation between the age group of 15 and 35 are eligible to take part in the yuvajanothsava. Those who win first prize in the district-level will be sent to the state-level. Only three to four colleges from the district had sent their representatives to the Yuvajanothsava. However, there was no participants from Belthangady, Bantwal taluks. Earlier speaking at the inauguration of the Yuvajanothsava, DK district Kannada Sahithya Parishath President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura said students should chose a right platform to showcase their talents.
District Youth Service and Sports department has been playing a vital role in identifying the budding talents. However, there has been poor response from the parents and educational institutions.
DK district Education and Health Standing Committee President K Santhosh Kumar Bhandary also spoke. ZP Vice-President Jayashri Kodandooru inaugurated the Yuvajanothsava.
