Former Bihar Minister Aditya Singh has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a fast-track court in Nawada on Wednesday.
Pronouncing the verdict, the Additional District and Sessions Judge V S Pathak found Aditya and three others guilty in the murder of Lalan Singh, mukhiya of Sakarpura panchayat in Nawada. The killing had taken place on January 6, 2006.
Aditya, a former Congress MLA, was Minister for Animal Husbandry in Rabri Devi’s Cabinet. However, ever since Nitish regime set up fast-track courts in 2006 to conduct speedy trials of controversial politicians, leaders with shady past are facing the music.
In May this year, RJD MP Md Shahabuddin was awarded life imprisonment in a case of kidnapping and subsequent murder of a CPI-ML worker. In October last, former MP Anand Mohan and his wife Lovely Anand were awarded death sentence and life-term respectively for their involvement in the killing of a district magistrate G Krishnaiah.
