The setting was formal and ornate. The occasion was celebration vintage Mysore silk sarees. On Thursday, the winners of the Vintage Mysore Silk Saree Contest were given a cheque and trophy by Principal Accountant General, Karnataka Usha Sankar.
The first prize, of Rs 20,000 went to Ms R Manomani Urs for her onion pink silk zari saree, which was given to her mother-in-law as her wedding gift, in 1948-49. She had in turn given it to Manomani at her wedding.
The second prize, of Rs 15,000 went to Ms Shakuntala Acharya’s royal blue saree with a star border in zari, bought in 1948-49, as marriage gift.
The third prize was bagged by Ms Usha Bapat, a physician at St John’s Hospital for her maroon silk zari saree bought in 1951. As many as 50 consolation prizes were given.
