Zonal talent competition begins

Awareness should be created about rural art and folk songs among students as they are slowly disappearing from the society, opined ZP President A C Nagaratna.


She was speaking at the inaugural function of the two-day Bangalore Zonal Talent competition held at Rangamandira in Kolar on Thursday . The competition has been organised by the Kannada and Culture Department. The competition is divided in to three categories namely Bala Prathibe (children) , Kishora Prathibe (Teenagers) and Yuva (youth) Prathibe.
The survival of the these arts (rural art and folk songs) in the future is dependent on the students, she added.
DC G Ramachandra who inaugurated the competition said that people come to know about various cultures during these competitions. Competition like these also paves way for exchange of cultures, he added.
It is an excellent platform to show case the talents in the students, said Ramachandra who assured  that if zonal competitions are successful district administration will help in the organising State-level competitions.
Additional SP K Yellappa who spoke on the occasion said that competitions like these should be encourage to develop art and teachers should  guide the students in this  direction.
  Briefing the gathering about various programmes undertaken by the Kannada and Culture Department,  Joint Director Durga C Aavarti opined that globalisation has enforced western culture on the youths and has relatively gained upper hand in the society. The competitions like this will re-enforce native traditions , he expressed.
He urged the people to take part in the utsavs like Kannadotsava, Kannada Rajyotsava, Hampi Utsava, Dasara Utsava and others.
Participants who came from districts like Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Mysore, Kodagu, Hassan, Tumkur, Bangalore rural, urban, Ramanagara, Chikkaballapur and Kolar took part in the competition.
Carnatic music, Hindustani instrumental music, classical dance, light music and folk songs are included under Bala and Kishora prathibe. In Yuva prathibe category group dance, Drama, Folk dance are included in addition to the discussion on ‘My favourite litterateur’. More than 600 participants took part in the Bala Prathibe category.
