Mob stones clinic, attacks doc over medical negligence
DH News Service,Shidlaghatta:

The relatives of a deceased and the public alleging negligence attacked the doctor and damaged Ravi Clinic here on Thursday.
A resident of Gandhinagar, Ramachandrappa (45), had come to the hospital complaining of stomach ache and chest pain. The doctors had given first aid and sent him back.
Just a few minutes after he returned, the patient collapsed. When he was immediately being taken to the same clinic, he breathed his last.
The relatives alleged that if he was given proper treatment in the morning itself, he would have survived.
As soon as the patient died, the relatives turned their ire against doctor Ravishankar. Not only did they attack him physically, they also damaged the compound and broke the glasses of the window panes of the clinic. The police who arrived on the spot, immediately brought the situation under control.
No complaint has been registered related to the incident. According to a source since the doctor had agreed to pay Rs 1.75 lakh as compensation, the relatives of the deceased decided not to take any action.
Clarification
Dr Ravishanker addressing a press conference said, “In such a situation, the doctors are scared to discharge their duties. No doctor will allow a patient to die. But in certain situations when death becomes inevitable, then doctors become helpless.
In such conditions if the relatives of the deceased and the public using ‘blackmail tactics,’ extort money from the doctors, then in the future, the services of good doctors will be lost.”
Condemned
The Drug Sellers Association president  V S V Gupta of Tilak stores has condemned the attack on the doctor.
The doctors cannot be held directly responsible for the death of the patient. It is wrong on the part of the relatives and the public to lose their balance of mind and indulge in such attacks, he added. Sushrita Nursing Home’s Dr Sathyanarayan Rao, Chandru Medicals’ Chandrashekar and others have severely criticised the attack on the doctor.
