Great Walkathon

More than 8000 people walked the Samarthanam, The Philips Great Walkathon-07 at Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore recently. Alexius Collette, trustee Mahantesh, celebrities like Suhas Gopinath, along with few Arjuna awardees and renowned personalities, took part in this event. The Great Walkathon which started at 3 pm from the stadium.

More than 8000 people including 2000 disabled walked the green area of Cubbon Park and returned back to the stadium. The objective of this programme was to bring together people from different walks of life along with the differently challenged people and create a feeling of solidarity.

It also increased the awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of person with disabilities in every aspect of political social, economical and cultural life and it is also commemorated the celebration of the International Day of Disabled, the theme of which is ‘Decent work for people with disabilities’.  The day represented the solidarity of great people for which the walkathon is being organized since 2005.
