Trouble broke out between lawyers and police in Kanpur leaving at least a dozen injured and almost two dozen charred vehicles.
It started off as a minor skirmish, when the scooter of a lawyer collided with the motorcycle of a policeman, quickly lead to blows. The lawyer, Subhash Tiwari, who claims he had a tooth knocked out among other injuries, led his colleagues from the district court to the Colonel Ganj station demanding a report against the policeman.
When the police officer on duty persisted that he would lodge a report against both the parties, the lawyers ransacked the police station. They also pelted stones and damaged private and police vehicles outside the SSP office. Three rounds of tear gas shells were fired to disperse the crowds.
