Rajdhani Express derails in Rajasthan

Eleven bogies of an Ahmedabad-bound Rajdhani Express on Thursday derailed between Sirohi and Banas station of Rajasthan, causing minor injuries to five passengers, reports PTI.

Only the engine and guard coaches did not go off the track. The derailment may have occurred due to a “snapped” (broken) track, officials said. Around 400 passengers were transported from the accident site to the Banas railway station from where they left by a special train for Ahmedabad at 9:15 am.

Due to restoration work at the New Delhi-Ahmedabad route from Sirohi-Banas stations, four trains have been diverted and eight have been cancelled.

3 cops killed in attack

Nearly 100 armed activists of the banned CPI (Maoists) attacked a police station in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, killing an officer and two head constables and seriously injuring another, police said on Wednesday.

“About 100 Maoists, armed with sophisticated weapons, raided the Bishrampur police station, about 240 km here, last night. Besides carrying out three landmines blasts, they resorted to indiscriminate firing, killing three policemen on the spot and injuring a constable,” top police officers from Bastar told PTI.

Those killed were an assistant sub inspector and two head constables, Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Rajinder Kumar Vij said.

The five-member jury for the awards was headed by Justice P N Bhagwati.

Angry man bites mad dog

A 65-year-old man, in a fit of anger, bit a rabid dog for attacking his duck and ended up in hospital, reports PTI.

Pappan bit the dog so hard in its throat that it bled profusely. The rabid dog had been frightening the residents of Pakakkadavu village in Kollam district, Kerala for the past few weeks. On Wednesday, the dog strayed into Pappan’s compound and took away his duck. Pappan was first taken to a local hospital but was later referred to the Medical College hospital in Thiruvananthapuram for treatment of rabies.
