Come January 2008, all transport vehicles plying in the State will have to be equipped with speed governors.
The State transport department, in compliance with High Court order, has made it a must for all new transport vehicles to be fitted with speed governors at the time of registration by December-end and directed all existing vehicles to follow the rule by Jan 1, 2008 onwards.
Speed governors will restrict the maximum speed to not more than 60 kmph. Vehicles not complying with the rule will not be given/ renewed fitness certificate by RTOs.
 Owners have been given time till December 31 to implement the rule.
