PointRed Technologies, a major player in wireless broadband design and development, is looking to deploy its WiMax (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) technology for e-governance projects in India. It is opening up its new research and development centre in Bangalore which can house upto 150 engineers.
Bangalore will continue to be PointRed’s software development and programming hub, with hardware development and prototyping being carried out from Taipei, Taiwan. “We have invested $2 million on R&D and will invest an additional $3-5 million,” said CEO Balaji Kulothungan. One of PointRed’s cost-effective solutions is pay-as-you-grow infrastructure.
“Telecom operators can use our scalable architecture based on their subscriber base,” he added.
Growth target
PointRed has recently deployed its technology for TNEB (Tamil Nadu Electricity Board) to computerise all their 1,725 collection centres across the state. The project worth Rs 75 crore after completion will benefit over 1.5 crore consumers.
In Karnataka PointRed has deployed its solutions for enterprises and for industrial estates in Coimbatore and doing projects for TATA, BSNL etc. “We are targeting a 30 per cent year-on-year growth,” Mr Kulothungan said.
PointRed, whose broadband wireless systems are being deployed in the US, Canada, South America, India, China, Malaysia and Europe, plans to further expand into newer markets such as the Middle-east, South-east Asia (Singapore), CIS markets, Africa and Australia.
