The City police on Friday ducked many questions in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a tourist in the City.
Additional Commissioner of Police Bipin Gopal Krishna read out a copy of the FIR, lodged by victim, at a press conference here.
It read the victim came here by a delayed Indigo flight on December 5. She hired a taxi to go to a hotel. The driver took her to a flat where he locked her.
After sometime, five men entered, drugged and gang-raped her till December 10. When she was freed on December 11, she approached the police and lodged a complaint with Airport police. She has named five youths, including one Sandeep, said the police.
“It is also not true she was at one particular place. She had given her cellphone number. Our findings based on her cellphone number show she was at different places,” he added.
However, the same day no medical examination was conducted. Mr Krishna said the CCB wanted to verify the fact. The case was registered only on December 12 night after a medical examination at Bowring Hospital, he said. On why the IGP and a State Human Rights official were kept waiting at Bowring Hospital for six hours on December 13, he said the woman had agreed to record her statement to SHRC officials and failed to turn up.
Instead, she left for Delhi, he said. “She told us she would return to Delhi to consult her mother before giving any statement.”
On whether she was into immoral trafficking, the police declined to comment. Police Commissioner Achutha Rao and Joint Commissioner of Police (crime) Gopal B Hosur were present.
Former chairperson of State Women’s Commission Pramila Nesargi has demanded a CBI inquiry or a probe by a High Court judge into the case.
