All the MPs and MLAs irrespective of their party should appeal to the Prime Minister to give Classical Status to Kannada, opined Union Minister K H Muniyappa who assured the public that he will make a earnest attempt in convincing the MPs and MLAs to do so.
He was speaking at the function organised to celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava, Nanya Tulabhara (weighing of coins) of former minister Bachche Gowda and Chariot offering ceremony to Shaneshwara temple at H Cross near Vemagal on Friday. A memorandum regarding this has already been given to Central government and also to Prime Minister, he added.
There are chances of Central government giving permission to name the Bangalore International Airport as Kempe Gowda International Airport, opined Muniyappa who said that a proposal regarding this has been sent to Central government. Criticising the comments that Central government is involved in step motherly treatment or biased he said that ours is a federation of states and Central government has treated every one equally without hurting the feelings of anybody. Former MLA B N Bachche Gowda who spoke on the occasion after his Tulabhara pledged to support pro-Kannada activities. Development of Kannada language and state lies in supporting local and rural artists who are spreading Kannada through their work, suggest Gowda.
Assuring the people of all help in developing the Shaneshwara temple at H cross Gowda said that it is sacred place for the people of Kolar as well as Bangalore rural district.
Though the this region has a large number of Telugu speakers the people are not hostile to Kannada, this is evident from the fact there isn’t single Telugu medium school in this region, opined Alangur
Srinivas.
