Former Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif has said he will consider his political rival Benazir Bhutto’s offer for seat adjustments for the upcoming general election if the move benefits both parties.
Sharif, the chief of PML-N, made these remarks at Haripur in North West Frontier Province (NWFP), on Thursday, after presiding over a meeting of his party’s central parliamentary board.
His comments came days after Bhutto said she was willing to consider seat adjustments with all political parties, including PML-N. Sharif had earlier ruled out electoral alliances, including with Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
Sharif told reporters on Thursday that his party has devised a mechanism to prevent rigging in the polls.
PML-N workers will monitor the election process, from polling to counting, at every polling station and thwart attempts to change the results, he said.
