The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to assign the Lead Bank responsibility of the two newly created districts in the Karnataka state to two public sector banks.
Accordingly, RBI has decided to assign the Lead Bank responsibility for Chikkaballapura district to Canara Bank on regular basis and for Ramanagara district to Corporation Bank on temporary basis up to March 2009 subject to review thereafter, said a notification issued by the apex bank.
However, there is no change in the lead bank responsibilities of other districts in the State of Karnataka. It may be noted that the two newly created districts in Karnataka were carved out of the existing Bangalore Rural District and Kolar District.
As many as four talukas have been included in Ramanagara district such as Magadi, Kanakapura and Channapatna besides Ramnagara itself.
Meanwhile six talukas were included in Chikkaballapura district such as Shidlaghatta, Chintamani, Bagepalli, Gudibande and Gowribidanuru apart from the original Chikkaballapura taluka.
