With the demand for dwelling units in India touching two million per year, and with 2.36 million houses being damaged annually due to disasters, the need is to opt for ‘Green building systems and materials’.
At a seminar on ‘Bamboo and Building Industry - prospects, Potential and Possibilities,’ organised at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, on Saturday, architects, builders and planners emphasised the need to go green and explore the potential of bamboo in the construction industry.
C Hariharan, Managing Director, BCIL Private Limited said that bamboo is a good option for future construction projects undertaken in the country as it can be used to construct anything from walls, roofs to fences, staircases, structural systems or railings.
