Death sparks tension
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Mystery shrouds the death of a youth at Jayadeva Hospital, a couple of hours after he was taken into custody by the Kengeri police, in the early hours of Sunday...

According to the police, Maqsood Shareef (28), a resident of Kondappa Badavane under Yelahanka police station limits, was detained by the Kengeri police after a group clash between his supporters and one Musavvir’s aides at Kengeri at about 2.30 am on Sunday.

In this connection, the police arrested  Ejaz (48), Asifullah Khan (40), Nusrath Ali (22), Shoukath Ali (22) and Khaleel Pasha (34), all are residents of Kengeri. Four more persons have been arrested in this connection.

“An hour after his detention, Maqsood complained of severe chest pain. We rushed him to the Jayadeva Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment,” said the station house officer of Kengeri police station K C Asundi.

Jayadeva Hospital authorities too confirmed that he died after his admission to the hospital. However, family members of the deceased argued that he never had any heart related ailment. Maqsood (28), a Class 7 pass, was a recovery agent with a private finance firm. Inspector Asundi said that Maqsood was a heart patient. “He had suffered mild heart attacks twice or thrice in his life and was getting treatment at the Jayadeva Hospital,” he said.

Maqsood’s wife Shabana Begum stated that he had received call from Ruby, daughter of Musavvir, who is known to Maqbool closely. She alleged that he was killed by the police in the custody. “He was never a heart patient. I never saw him taking even injections,” said Begum. The deceased person’s brother Firoz too alleged policemen’s high-handedness leading to his brother’s death.

There was tension at the Victoria Hospital for the whole day where the autopsy was conducted. Relatives said, they will not take the body until the autopsy confirms the reasons behind the death.
