The D Devaraja Urs Bhavan in Madikeri, which is partially completed is awaiting completion. Unfortunately, this building is just one of the several other buildings left half way completed by the Kodagu Land Army Corporation.
The Corporation former assistant director had allegedly accepted every and any work that came his way, knowing it fully well that the Corporation would not be able to complete the works within the stipulated time limit.
Now after his transfer, the works accepted by him are left mid way, neither incomplete nor complete.
While the media reported about the Bhavan last year, the then deputy commissioner Subodh Yadav had assured the Corporation of releasing the required amount immediately. The assurance of Mr Yadav has remained just an assurance and the testimony for his failure is the half completed building.
The foundation stone for the construction of the building was laid on November 20, 2005 but though two years have passed by, the construction has not yet been finished. The local residents are annoyed by this as they feel that the Government and the district administration has insulted the former chief minister D Devaraja Urs by leaving a building being built in his memory in this plight.
The government has released a sum of Rs 10 lakh of which Rs 7.5 lakh was released to the Corporation for the construction purpose and the remaining Rs 2.5 lakhs is in the DC’s account.
The irony is that though Rs 7.5 lakhs has been spent, the building has only raised half the structure of the planned building.
Now the revived proposal for the same building is estimated to cost Rs 25 lakh. In this regard, the members of backward communities and minorities have submitted a memorandum to the Government requesting to release the additional funds of Rs 15 lakhs so that the building could be completed and put to use.
Its time the people’s representatives shed some attention towards the issue and take action to complete the works by providing additional funds.
