Bangkok, TNA: People will be able to clearly see Mars with naked eyes from this Wednesday until early February 2008, as the planet moves opposite the Sun and nearest the Earth, reported the Thai Astronomy Association (TAA).
On average Mars moves closest to the Earth every two years and two months. In 2007 it will move near the orbit of the Earth this month, according to the TAA statement, with its visibility expected to be better than when it moved near the Earth in 2003.
Considered as the same type of planet in the Solar system as Mercury, Venus and the Earth, the surface of Mars has changed considerably due to volcanic explosions, frequent meteor strikes and dust storms within the planet's atmosphere.
The TAA said Mars could be seen at its brightest about 30 minutes after sunset this Wednesday. Its brightness would start to fade from late January onward.
