A resolution adopted at the conference said the DMK had approached the Centre to take appropriate action whenever Tamils living abroad were affected. It said following some ‘unfortunate incidents’ that had made the Malaysian Tamils struggle for their rights, DMK chief and state Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had asked the Centre in a “non-controversial manner” to look into their grievances and take up the matter with the Malaysian government. However, a Malaysian minister had taken strong exception to Karunanidhi’s remarks and asked him to ‘lay-off’.

Another resolution adopted at the conference asked the Centre to provide reservation for minorities all over the country. It also said that the Centre should amend the Constitution for this purpose. The resolution also demanded that the reservation of 27 per cent to backward classes be strictly implemented.
