Officials visited a construction site where a TMC member has allegedly encroached upon land belonging to a religious organisation as well as the TMC, and put a stop to the construction work, here on Monday.

D M Jagadishwar, member of the TMC (22nd ward) is allegedly constructing a building, having unlawfully acquired land that was reserved for the Gare Mutt. It is said that Jagadishwar had the records rewritten in his name, when he was the president of the TMC Standing Committee.

As per the original documents, the land belongs to the Goolur Mutt. Under the pretext of road widening work, the compound of the temple was demolished, and a shop is now being built. Since this is a religious issue, strict action must be taken against the corporator, said the residents in a written complaint to the deputy commissioner.
