The farmers in the district held a huge protest rally against the acquisition of lands in Kora and Bellave hoblis for industrial purposes in Tumkur on Monday.

The protest rally which was led by cine actor Ashok, journalists Chi Na Ekeshwar, Kamaraju, Govinda Raju staged a dharna in front of the office of the   Deputy Commissioner.

The farmers protested against the notice given by the Karnataka Industrial area development Board, which said that the thousands of acres of farmers’ land will be acquired in Bellave and Kora hoblis for Industrial purposes.

The Deputy Commissioner had also announced regarding the land acquisition in the said hoblis. Opposing the land acquisition, they said that, many farmers who are in these areas belonged to backward communities and have only piece land.

If at all the decision of acquiring of lands from them in these taluks are  implemented, the poor farmers  will all go bankrupt, the protesters added.

The farmers’ rally started from Sira gate and staged dharna entire day in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner.

Strong protest

The protesters also warned of holding strong protests if the government continued with its decision to acquire lands in Kora and Bellave hoblis.
