SHRC team to visit Gadag
Hubli, DHNS:

Leader of Opposition in the State Legislative Council H K Patil on Monday disclosed that  a team from the State Human Rights Commission will be visiting some villages in Ron and Nargund taluks of Gadag district on December 19, where flood victims have been leading a difficult life.

Addressing a news conference here, he said the district administration of Gadag had failed to respond to the needs and aspirations of those who had been displaced by unprecedented floods that hit the district in September.

Those displaced families had been living in sheds which lacked basic facilities such as drinking water, electricity and access to health for the last three months. Most of the school children had dropped because schools were two to three km from the temporary shelter. This clearly amounted to gross violation of human rights. In view of this, a group of elected representatives met the chairman of the State Human Rights Commission, Mr Justice S R Nayak and explained to him the plight of flood victims.
