The organisers have appealed for greater participation of public in the campaign “Vote Bengaluru” campaign launched for cleansing up the electoral system in the City as there is good response to the campaign.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Poornima of ‘Public Affairs Centre’, an NGO involved in the campaign, said it has now launched a programme to clean up the voters list in some wards of Malleswaram.
Plans
“In the days to come we want to extend it to other wards in the City as well. We request the people interested to join hands with our campaign. Soon, campaigns will also be launched to create awareness among voters to include their names in the list,” she added.
Dr Meenakshi Bharath of ‘Citizens Action Forum’ said there is a great need for ‘cleaning up’ the voters’ list as the verification done by the State election commissioners’s office using a software has shown that more than three lakh names have been repeated in the City voters list.
Bogus voters too
“There could be many bogus voters also in the list. These can be unearthed only through door to door verification of voters list. But, this task can’t be done only by the State election commission,” she observed.
