Prof Tejaswi Kattimani, chairman of the Hindi department, Maulana Azad National Urdu University was on Tuesday given the prestigious ‘National Gangasharana Simha’ award by President Pratibha Patil.
The award, instituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development ministry, was given in recognition of his service to Hindi language and literature.
The award carries Rs one lakh, a shawl and a citation.
Prof Kattimani hails from Alavandi in Koppal district and served as head of the department of Hindi, Karnataka University.
He has authored 17 books in Kannada and five in Hindi.
He has also contributed in the field of translation and comparative studies.
Project
He is now working on a UGC research project, ‘The relationship between Kannada and Hindi languages’.
