Karnataka boys and girls teams started their campaign on winning note in the National school basketball tournament at the Lord’s Boys High School grounds here on Tuesday.
In the boys’ section, Karnataka scored a 39-26 win over IPSC. For the winners, Kevin Shyam and Belliappa scored 9 and 6 points respectively. For IPSC, Akshay Hooda and Aravind Kumar scored 13 and 10 points, but their efforts could not steer their team to victory.
Karnataka recorded a 46-13 win over Andhra Pradesh in the girls’s section. For Karnataka, Babita, Sneha Paul and D M Sony scored 11,10 and eight respectively to lead their charge as the visitors left with no ideas how to tackle the hosts’ trio.
In other league matches, Punjab defeated Andhra Pradesh 40-30. Tamil Nadu girls had little trouble against Haryana, winning 41-25. For Tamil Nadu, M Keerthi scored 13 points, and for Haryana, Babita top scored with 7.
Chattisgarh had an equally easy time on the court against Gujarat while notching up a 20-6 win. For the winners, Trupti Rathore scored 10 points. Chandigarh cruised to a facile 39-13 win over IPSC.
In another boys match, Delhi defeated Gujarat 47-27. Kabeesh Bhatia scored 31 points for Delhi.
