Bhupathi to  partner Paes

Their differences notwithstanding, tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi said he would team up with estranged doubles partner Leander Paes in next year’s Beijing Olympic Games, reports PTI from New Delhi.

Bhupathi’s relation with Paes reached a flashpoint during the Asian Games in Doha where the duo parted ways.

Bhupathi said pairing with Paes would brighten India’s medal chances and hence the duo decided to bury their hatchet.

“We are looking forward to it. It was a very logical choice because we are one of the medal contenders for the country,” Bhupathi said. Bhupathi said they would start practising soon.

Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard will sit out his team's first Champions League knockout stage match after being handed a touchline ban by UEFA, reports Reuters from Zurich.

Terry could be out for six weeks

Chelsea captain John Terry could be out for up to six weeks, his club said Monday, after revealing the England centre-half broke three bones in his foot following a clash with Emmanuel Eboue during a 1-0 defeat away to Premier League leaders Arsenal, reports AFP from London.

HC dismisses lifter’s plea

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed lifter Anita Kumari’s suit challenging the action of the Indian Weightlifting Federation, which had barred her from attending national camps, after her second sample tested positive, reports PTI from New Delhi.

Lawson to stay, says PCB

The Pakistan Cricket Board has said it was not contemplating sacking of coach Geoff Lawson but want the Australian to lay emphasis on making the team ‘mentally tough’ and more ‘focused’. A senior PCB official said the Board trusted the abilities of the national coach. “Like captain Shoaib Malik we have full confidence in Lawson’s abilities and there are no plans to change the coach.”
