Developers of UB City will take up upgradation of Vittal Mallya Road, which is in a bad state. The upgradation includes laying a concrete road, installing street lights and beautifying junctions.
While BBMP claims it has asked UB City Developers to develop the road, Prestige Group, one of the developers, has said the firm has come forward to upgrade the road and has been awaiting the Palike’s permission.
According to BBMP (East) Joint Commissioner S N Nagaraj, the road is in a bad shape due to the frequent movement of trucks carrying construction materials for UB City. The Palike has asked builders to improve the road at a cost of Rs 1 crore. The builders have agreed. The plan is before the Palike Commissioner. As soon as he gives his assent, the work will begin, he added.
“We have expressed our wish to develop the road on our own. The company is investing money in crores on UB City and wants the road leading to the building to be of international standard. We need Palike’s permission to go ahead,” said Mr Nayeem Noor, vice-president (public relations) Prestige Group.
The firm will improve the road between Lavelle Road junction and Tiffany’s Junction and lay concrete road and install street lights. “We will also beautify both junctions with colourful lights,” he said.
Incessant rains that lashed the City in September and October have damaged several roads. The Palike took up filling up of potholes last month. Mr Nagaraj said the Palike did not take up pothole-filling works on Vittal Mallya Road as the upgradation proposal was ready by then. “Funds will be contributed by UB City Developers, while the Palike will supervise works,” he added.
