Refresher course

The 27th refresher course was held on December1 at the Raman Lecture Hall. The function commenced with invocation by Dr Shruti Kirti. Prof Hanumantharappa welcomed the guests of honour - K C Rama Murthy, IPS, Bangalore Traffic. Prof B C Sanjeevaiah, Dr Pushpa Bhatt, Dr P Shivagnana Murthy, Director of Academic Staff College and Dr M Ramachandra Gowda, co-ordinator of Academic Staff College programmes.

Dr M Ramachandra Gowda, co-ordinator of the refresher course programme, who was also the observer highlighted the details of the programme, resource persons and their presentation. Dr M Ramachandra Gowda also thanked the Academic Staff College Director Dr P Shivagnana Murthy and his staff for their active support.
  The participants gave a positive feedback about the refresher course. Dr P Shivagnana Murthy aired the participants’ views. He said from the next refresher course programmes, communication would be introduced in order to improve the communications skills of the participants in order to increase value-added knowledge. K C. Rama Murthy delivered the valedictory address.

Communicating science

The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has taken the initiative to hold discussions and examine the challenges in communicating science and technology in regional languages and examine what measures could be taken to make this effective. Various regional  chapters of the Indian Science Congress Association are holding regional symposia and a few experts from each chapter will be invited to participate in the national-level symposium. Prof Geetha Bali, Convenor, Bangalore Chapter, Indian Science Congress Association organised the regional symposium on `Challenges in communicating science and technology in regional languages’ on Dec 4 in the Senate Hall, Central College campus, Bangalore University.

Gothic touch

Aruna’s Institute of Fashion Technology won the first place in the fashion show ‘Renaissance with Gothic touch’ conducted by Wigan Leigh College, the UK-based fashion college. It also won the best choreographer of the event. The models displayed an air of Gothic culture. Patterns, design and style was conceived by the students under the guidance of fashion designing department at Aruna Institute of Fashion Technology.

Foundation stone laid

The foundation stone for an auditorium in memory of Prof K Venkatagiri Gowda was laid by Savithri Venkagiri Gowda at the Jnanabharathi campus, Bangalore University on December 14. Vice-Chancellor Prof H A Ranganth in his presidential address praised the contributions of Prof KVG in the academic and social life.

Annual day

Utsav, the annual day celebration of Modern Public English School, Ganganagar, was inaugurated by Chennabasappa, DDPI, Bangalore North on December 8 at Tarlabalu Kendra, RT Nagar. Toppers and achievers from class I to 10 were awarded prizes. Popular English numbers, Lavani, Tarzan, skit and fashion show were presented by the students.

Management education conference

Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME) is organising an international conference on Management Education: ‘Country perspectives in a globalising world’ on Jan 24-25. A collective reflection and dialogue on management education across the world is the theme of the conference. The conference will be based on a combined indication and exchange of ideas on management education across the world. its objective is to compare ideas and exchange views on national experiences in a vital field of professional education, for ever expanding in scope and now changing at a hastened pace in the content of globalisation. How they are setting about this task and how countries could gain by learning from each other is the theme of a conference that XIME is organising at its campus at Electronic City on Jan 24-Jan 25. The conference is open to academicians, students, industry, consultants, trainers who are representing institutions and companies. The last date for registration is December 31.
