Lift prohibition on sand transportation: Protestors
DH News Service, Chikkaballapur:

Chikkaballapur District Registered Contractors’ Association on Wednesday protested seeking the relaxation of the prohibition on sand transportation in the district.

Due to the prohibition on sand transportation in the district the construction activities in the district has been worst hit. As a result the cost of construction has shot up and the labourers are left without any jobs, the protesters said. Imposing prohibition on sand transportation is a commendable act.

The move is essential in protecting the environment and the ground water table. However, the district administration should understand that sand is required for the construction in the region. Thus, provisions should be made for limited transportation of sand in the region facilitating local constructions, the protesters added.

Sand transportation outside the district can be prohibited. Those involved in the sand mafia  should be penalised.
Instead of accomplishing this the district administration is prohibiting sand transportation  within the district, they observed.

The protesters submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner and on receiving it Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav assured the protesters that appropriate investigation will be conducted. Contractors’ Association Zilla Unit President Mune Gowda and others led the protest.
