Russia takes on the United States

Sir,

Russia has gone ahead with its agenda of ridiculing the US. Not only they walked out of Non-Federal Entity (NFE) agreements in response to the NATO decision to place nuclear shield in Poland and Czech Republic warning further actions, it also questions the US move to grant independence to Kosovo. They have sent first installment of shipment of nuclear material to Iran.

US attacks the vessels on the sea carrying weaponry and other classified items to its enemy countries. US calls Iran a “rogue state” and has threatened to invade it, while Iran has challenged the US to attack Iran if it can.

Russia has displayed its “smartness” by delivering nuclear material to Iran now against the objections of the Bush administration. What is the US president doing now? Is the US really afraid of Russia because it is also a powerful UNSC member with veto power?

Merchants of death

Sir,

With reference to Kancha Ilaiah article (DH, Dec 19), he is right in refering BJP in general and Narendra Modi in particular as “merchant of death”. The whole world knows what happened in Gujarat in 2002. RSS, VHP and BJP were solely responsible for deaths of thousands of Muslims under the guidance of Modi and L K Advani. So it is going to be very unfortunate thing that a person who ordered people to demolish Babri Masjid has been appointed as the PM candidate.

Prejudices

Sir,

With reference to Merchant of death (DH, Dec 19), I thought Kancha Ilaiah is a rational person, but his flippant remarks have proved me wrong. He seems to be having some prejudices towards L K Advani, but that does not permit him to pass a judgement on the entire community, ignoring our contribution to the society, despite the fact that we have never had a land of our own, we have never claimed a presence in the state or the central cabinet on the basis of minority nor have we claimed any reservation on the basis of minority. He needs to apologise for this.

Step-motherly attitude

Sir,

The proposal to change the name of Bangalore to Bengaluru along with the change in names of 12 towns in Karnataka has been pending before the UPA Government for about an year. Likewise, the proposal for granting Kannada the classical language status has also not been cleared. However, Tamil was granted classical language status without any such scrutiny, as DMK is a member of the UPA coalition and is in a position to twist the arm of the government. The UPA government has been adopting a step motherly treatment towards Karnataka.

Second Gujarat

Sir,

Even though the peace committee led by A L Ashok urged the Governor not to give permission to celebrate Datta Peeta Jayanti and shobha yatra in Baba Budangiri, Governor Rameshwar Thakur has given permission to commemorate shobha yatra.

It reminds me of our former Prime Minister late P V Narasimha Rao who had given approval to consecrate kar seva in Ayodhya on getting assurance from then BJP chief minister Kalyan Singh. It seems BJP wants to make Baba Budangiri as second Ayodhya and Karnataka as Gujarat.
