Book on Cariappa launched
Accolades from all quarters summed up the mood among the distinguished gathering at the release of the book ‘Field Marshal K M Cariappa’ on December 15.
The illustrated biography written by his son gives a glimpse into the lesser known face of a disciplinarian, yet loving father who wished his son to follow in his footsteps, before conceding that ‘The Air Force needs few good chaps too!’
Authored by Air Marshal K C Cariappa, the book is a son’s tribute to a man described by many a the ‘Father of the Indian Army’. With over 164 colour photographs providing an insight into the life of the field marshal, the ‘Coffee Table’ book gives the reader intresting facets of the first Indian commander-in-chief as described by playwright Girish Karnad, the chief guest at the launch of the illustrated biography.
As K C Cariappa put it, “He allowed his daughter to drive his ‘Plymouth’ car, that no one else was permitted to touch and insisted she learn typing and shorthand, among other things, to ride out a rainy day”
Describing his father as having great qualities of leadership, K C Cariappa pays homage to a great son of Coorg, .“He lived his life for the army. He was wary of India going into Bangaldesh.
His opinion on the Chinese threat, the issue of merger of Coorg into the Mysore state were some of the issues he spoke out on” said Mr Cariappa.
Painting competition
A painting competition was organised by Syndicate Bank. More than 5000 children particiapted in the competition held at Lalbagh, Cubbon Park and other schools. Winners of the painting competition held on November 18 are:
In the kids category, the first prize was won by Jasmine, second by Jayanth M R and Chaitrashree Bhat and third by Sonali Pai and Siri P B and Kalyani D. The encouragement prize was won by Deepthi J A, Pranav Krishna M, Shamitha Dasari and J Pooja.
In the children’s category, the first prize was won by Lichhavi H; Second by Nandini D M and Anoop P Hegde and third by F C Teena Andrews, Anjana Ganesh and B R Yogitha.
Encouragement prizes were won by Rachita Ramesh, Usha S Ram, Gayathri Priya S and Kirtana.
In the teen category, fisrt prize was won by Shreya S Kumar, second by Ranjith U and Kiran Kumar R and the third by M Abhinav, Swathi V and Preethi M Shet.
Encouragement prizes were won by Priyanka, Akshay K Uday, B A Karthik Aditya & B Ranjana Acharya.
Cognizant unwinds at Josh 2007
It was an evening of colour, enthusiasm and vibrancy as Cognizant unveiled its stars and brilliant minds. On December 14, Cognizant associates got together at the Christ College Auditorium to showcase their impressive talent and creative side at Josh 2007.
The annual talent show of Cognizant witnessed a celebration of music, dance, drama, mimicry and fashion, and culminated in a rocking performance by the in-house band - Waves. The participants treated the associates to some brilliant performances that were equally matched by the applause and enthusiasm of the audience.
The MC for the event was Mark Rego, who, with his informal style, set the mood for the occasion and elicited excellent crowd participation.
The show got off to a colourful start with an enthralling Era Dance of Bollywood Heroines.
The associates captured the elegant grace and beauty of yesteryear heartthrobs to the peppy style and the fiery glamour of today’s hot and svelte stars. It culminated in the grand re-entry of the all-time-favourite Madhuri Dixit with the popular number from Nach Le.
A performance that left everyone spellbound and elicited a standing ovation was the mesmerising Kathak recital by Rahul Maheshwari, who turned out to be a true discovery at Josh 2007 with his graceful movements and captivating expressions!
Prashanth showed the audience how, with his witty mimicry that elicited excellent response from the audience. Modern Ramayana in English and a humourous Kannada skit showcased the histrionic talent of the associates.
The toast of the evening was the Nach Baliye dance contest exclusively for the managers. The audience who were the deciding authorities voted for the best dancing pair. At the fashion show cognizant models scorched the ramp in grand modern bridal-wear in the first round.
The second round saw them amuse everyone as they walked the ramp with a mini zoo on their heads.
Parrots, eagles, butterflies, bats, sparrows and ducks perched on the models’ heads highlighted the pressing concerns of environment and wildlife.
