The boy surrendered after the Madras High Court directed his counsel on Tuesday to approach the juvenile court when he sought anticipatory bail for the 16-year-old.
Police opposed bail citing “clinching evidence” that he was behind the wheels of a Merecedes Benz, that ran over 11 people sleeping on a footpath here on December 13, killing two of them and injuring the rest.
The judge, while granting bail, directed him to report to the investigation officer.
A driver of the business house surrendered before the police claiming he had driven the vehicle.
