Virasat award for Kadri Gopalnath
Mangalore, dhns: The five-day long cultural extravaganza, and one of the most awaited programmes in the district, “Alva’s Virasat” will be held at Shobavana at Mijar, about 30 kms from here, from January 2 to January 6.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva said the cultural fest will be held in serene ambience complete with artistic stages and special light decoration.
The highlight will be the conferring of Virasat award on saxophone artiste Kadri Gopalnath. This year’s Alva’s Virasat will host artistes like Saxophone Kadri Gopalnath, mohanveena artiste Vishwamohan Bhatt, Dr Ghatam Karthik, sitar player Purbayan Chatterjee, drum maestro Shivamani, Rudresh Mahanthappa, A K Palanivelu, V Selva Ganesh.
Chaduranga award announced
Mysore, dhns: Playwright D C Chougale’s ‘Dishantara’ has been selected for the Chaduranga Award constituted by the Chaduranga Foundation, Mysore.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a citation. The award will be presented at a programme in Mysore on January 1.
The selection committee included Prof D A Shankar, Chidambara Rao Jambe and C Basavalingaiah.
