Vaishnavas believe the sacred ‘Vaikuntha Dwaram’ is open on Vaikuntha Ekadasi, once in a year.
Apart from poojas many Sri Krishna temples were decorated with colourful pandals, offered varieties of prasadam and had special cultural programmes for the day.
At the ‘Tirumala Tirupathi Temple’, queues extended to the street as devotees made their way through the Vaikuntha Dwaram.
“It is believed Lord Vishnu appears during this day, giving a darshan to all his followers after prayers,” said Gururaj, a retired SI at the temple.
The rain did not dampen the spirit of devotees as a lakh devotees visited Iskcon.
