Carnation, Dianthus, Jerberas, cocks comb, Casmes, Crysantamum, rose, genia, anthorium, Bougonvilla, Dahlias, orchids and much much more. All this and more is awaiting the visitors at the vegetables, flowers and medicinal herb exhibition put up at Pilikula Nisarghadhama, which will be inaugurated on Friday (Dec 21).
Addressing a news conference on Thursday, Pilikula Nisargadhama Director J R Lobo said that the exhibition will be held till January 5 and the main aim of such exhibition is to boost tourism in the region.
He said that over 500 medicinal plants of over 34 species along with 1,100 ornamental flower plants, 35 types of vegetables and 14 Bonsai are on display. Mr Lobo informed that seeds of the plants and some of the plants itself will be sold at the venue.
In the orchid section, there are Thouchem gold, Singapore red, Hieing beauty, Sonia 2001, spider orchid, lady red, Mokara, Cymbidium and Lady’s slipper orchids on display here, which are some of the best ornamental and ornamental orchids.
Apart from this, over 10 lotus plants of ten different colours have been placed in a artificially created pond, but the flowers are yet to bloom. In the medicinal plant area, there are some of the rarest and the common medicinal plants such as Saraca Asoca, flacourtia montane gram, butea monosperma taubert, mesua ferrea, Nothapodytes nimmoniama, piper longum, aloe vera, vetiveria zizanoides, Mehendi plant, lemon, tulsi and others.
Cabbage, pumpkins, spinach, lady’s finger, beet root, radish, chillies, capsicum, coriander and others are also on display here.
Mr Lobo said that last year about 40,000 visitors visited the exhibition and informed that they expect more visitors this year.
