Overhead track: A shortsighted decision
Sir, The agitation being carried out against laying an overhead track by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) along MG road and CMH road is fully justified. The future generation who live in Bangalore will never pardon BMRC for taking this shortsighted decision .
Opting for an underground system, no doubt, may result in an extra cost of about Rs 250 crores, but this extra cost is justified if the advantages are taken into account.
The work can be carried out in a shorter time in the absence of any impediments without disturbing the neighbourhood and a shopping centre can be constructed underground and earn a substantial income.
The character of these prestigious roads will also be preserved and the people using these roads will not be subjected to noise even if it is asserted that the noise level would be within permissible limits. It is not too late to revise the decision and a loss of a few crores already incurred should not matter considering the long term benefits.

Anti-Sikh riots
Sir, It’s unfortunate that victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi are still awaiting justice even after all these years of anxious waiting. The lone survivor of the riots who claims to have been an eye witness to the Congress leader Jagdish Tytler’s involvement in the anti-Sikh riots is playing hide-and-seek in the safety of the US.
He should depose before the Court as early as possible. However, if he is reluctant to come to India due to security concerns, then he should agree to be cross-examined by means of video-conference, if it's permissible under the law.

Punish the guilty
Sir, It was an excellent operation done by the Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde and his team of officials in raiding 38 state officials including IAS officers to uncover Rs 30 crore.
These officials should be put behind bars after obtaining appropriate court order till the enquiry is over. Lokayukta is doing a commendable job to unearth corruption.

Corruption
Sir, Congrats to Justice Santosh Hegde and other Lokayukta officials for uncovering Rs 30 crores from the group of corrupt officials. If the raids are conducted this way, we are sure, corruption in government offices will surely come down.
Suspensions or sacking of the corrupt officials will set a precedent for the other black sheeps looting away the treasury and ultimately the tax payers have to shell out.

Representation
Sir, R Akhileshwari's article, Time to claim their rightful share,(DH, Dec 18) is a searing analysis on the lopsided power structure in Andhra Pradesh. It is indeed shocking that a combination of a few dominant social groups with a mere 14 per cent population commands a presence of 52 per cent in the Legislative Assembly.
The current electoral representation system defeats the broader objectives of our democracy. The Forum for Empowerment of Weaker Sections may be right when it says that "only proportional representation of all communities can ensure social justice.”
