Music

Sitar recital

Hindustani Sangeeta Kalakara Mandali in association with Gokhale Institute of Public Affairs is organising Benne Narayana Rao Memorial Concert with a sitar recital by Sundarnath (disciple of late Ustad Balekhan) on December 22 at 6 pm at the Gokhale Institute of Public Affairs, near BMS Engineering college, Bull Temple road, N R Colony. He will be accompanied by Vighnesh Sharma on the tabla.

Hindustani vocal

Under the Horizon/Every Friday Cultural Evening programme (EFCEP), the ICCR in collaboration with Department of Kannada and Culture, Department of Kannada and Culture, Department of Youth Services and Sports and Youth Writers and Artistes Guild will be presenting a Hindustani Classical Vocal/Devotional Songs Concert by Shaila A Bhandharkar, on Dec 21 at 6:30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre Nrupathunga Road. Tribute to music

Vijaya and Karthik School of Veena and Keyboard presents a tribute to Veena virtuoso Kalaimamani R K Suryanarayan at ADA Rangamandira, J C Road on December 25. The invocation will be by Hema Varshini N Y and Vaishnavi N Y. At 6 pm, there will an ensemble by Vijaya Lakshmi Govinda Rao and her disciples Seetha Lakshmi S, Veena Suresh, Kamini Chandar, Smitha N and Ramya B. At 7:15 pm there will be ‘One Man Show’, film songs with Master Karthik G Rao on the keyboard. At 8:30 pm there will be veena and keyboard ensemble by Vijaya Lakshmi Govindarao and Karthik G Rao along with their disciples. Call 26507690 for details.

Veena, mridangam recital

The Bangalore Gyana Samaja on K R Road will host a recital of T Sharada on Veena and V S Rajagopal on Mrudangam on December 23 at 6 pm.  

Jugalbandhi concert

BTM Cultural Academy is having a grand jugalbandhi recital by Bellary Raghavendra (Carnatic vocal), Pt Sripada Hegde (Hindustani vocal), C N Chandrasekhar (violin), Umakanth Puranik (harmonium), K U Jayachandra Rao (mridangam) and Udayaraj Karpur (tabla) on Dec 22 at 5:30 pm.

Painting exhibition

Paint Box Art Gallery will be holding ‘Rainbow-10’, an exhibition of paintings by Shivaraju K, Pramod P T, Namita Basrur, Vatsala T from December 24 to December 28. The timings are 10 am to 8 pm. The venue is Paint Box Art Gallery, 1381, Ist floor, Next to Viswa Sagar, East End Circle, 9th block, Jayanagar.

The Guild Art Gallery, Mumbai and Gallery Sumukha present ‘Probabilities of occuring’ — recent works by Arunanshu Chowdhury, from December 22 to January 8 between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm at Gallery Sumukha, 24/10 BTS Depot Road, Wilson Garden.

Dance showcase

‘Arpan’, a kathak and contemporary Indian dance showcase featuring young students of the Natya Stem Dance Kampni’s training wing Dance Kampni will be held on December 22 at 6:30 pm at ADA Rangamandira, JC road, Bangalore (diagonally opposite the Town Hall) Admission free.

Rangapravesham

Nupura will have the ‘Rangapravesham’ of Manasa Rao, disciple of Guru Lalitha Srinivasan, on December 23, 6 pm at the Chowdaiah Memorial Hall, GD Park Extension, Vyalikaval.

Bharatanatyam  

Ramya Sunad, a disciple of Vani Ganapathi, will have her recital on December 23 at 6 pm. Natuwaya will be by Guru Vani Ganapathy and Pulikeshi Kasturi. Vocals will be by Balasubramanya Sharma, flute by Jayarama and Mrudanga by Chandrashekar. This will be conducted by the BTM Cultural Academy on December 23 at 6 pm.

Drama

Kannada play

 ‘Bahumukhi’, a Kannada play by Vivek Shanbhag (playwright) and S Surendranath (director) organised by Ranga Shankara and Sanchaya will be held on December 22 and Dec 23 at 7.30 pm. This will also be staged at 3:30 pm on Sunday at the Ranga Shankara.

Pot Pourri

For a cause

Take 2, an amateur theatre group in Bangalore, is presenting ‘Maya’, the story of a girl in a contemporary urban setting filled with challenges, happiness, opportunities, emotions, and hope. The play, in support of The Eighteenth Horse Foundation, an NGO, is on December 21, 7:30 pm at Alliance Francaise de Bangalore. Tickets are available at the venue.

Children at Bal Bhavan

Three children will enthrall the audience with their performance called ‘Bala Vedike’ at Bal Bhavan on December 23 with music and dance.

 Nine-year-old Raksha H and Ankitha S (9) will  present light music while Swathi K (10) will present folk dance. The programme will be held between 2.30 pm and 5 pm.
