Students allowed to write exam
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The Karnataka High Court on Thursday permitted 120 MBA and MCA students whose admissions have not been approved, to write the examinations of first semester MBA and MCA courses, scheduled to start from December 27...

The students and Acharya Institute of Technology, Hesaraghatta, Bangalore, had petitioned the Court against Visvesvaraya Technological University’s refusal to approve admissions of these students.

Justice Mohan Shantangoudar passed an interim order directing VTU to permit the students to write the exams, subject to the outcome of their petiiton.

The judge also clarified that the students should not later claim equity on the basis of this order and that results shall not be announced pending disposal of the petition.

Clearance

The High Court on Thursday cleared the way for implementing the Centrally-sponsored Vitamin ‘A’ Deficiency Eradication scheme in the State Government as part of Suvarna Karnataka year.

Justice S Abdul Nazeer dismissed a writ petition challenging the validity of the tender process for implementing the scheme.

Vivek Pharmachem of Jaipur and others had alleged that there was impropriety in the processing of tenders invited for supplying Vitamin ‘A’ solution. The Court had granted an interim order of stay on December 10. The Government had then moved an application seeking vacation of the stay.

During the hearing on Thursday, Government advocate B Veerappa said that the programme intended to prevent night blindness and visual disorders in children by providing Vitamin A vaccination for children aged between 9 months and 5 years. If stay is not vacated against this time-bound scheme, 45 lakh children,  who have vitamin deficiency, will suffer, he said.

Petition against hotel

The HC on Thursday ordered notice to State Government on a petition challenging the permission granted by Tourism department to construct a five-star hotel in ecologically rich Kodachadri, known to have been Sri Shankaracharya’s tapobhoomi.

The petition filed by Sandeepani Sadhana Ashram’s Esha Vittaladasa Swamiji stated that it was a breach to the Sarvagna Peetha located there, to convert this religious centre into a place for materialism. Justice S Abdul Nazeer ordered notices to respondent authorities.
