D Rathnamma Nagara, Moodbidre (DK dist): Litterateurs should work towards the extension of Kannada language in computer, said Educationist Dr Lingadevaru Halemane.
Speaking on “Medium of instruction” at a seminar on “Litterateur’s educational responsibilities” at Alva’s Nudisiri on Saturday, he said writers should kindle the spirit of struggle in people. They have a greater responsibility of passing the fruits of the struggle to the future generation. After the unification movement, litterateurs took part in language movement.
Gokak movement was so strong that it brought together all the litterateurs with different ideologies for a cause. He said litterateurs have a fear that English language will sidleline Kannada. Owing to the change in the preference of language, many private schools mushroomed in the State. By the time Government woke up and realised its mistake, the damage was already done. Government sent a circular urging not to open English medium schools. It even had to stand before the Court, he added.
Haldodderi Sudeendra said more Kannada should be seen in internet. Science writers should have a flare for knowledge on the language and should write in Kannada so that it will reach the Kannadigas.
Sammelan President G Venkatasubbaiah, Alva’s Education Trust Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva were present.
