The BMTC is going ballistic against ticketless passengers. It has proposed to increase penalty for ticketless travel by 20 times the fare or a maximum of Rs 1,000, whichever is more.
It plans to ask the government to amend the Motor Vehicles Act in this regard. At present, ticketless travellers must pay ten times the fare as penalty or a maximum of Rs 500, whichever is less.
According to BMTC Chief Security and Vigilance Officer S K Belahatti, the corporation plans to recruit retired police personnel to nab those indulging in resale of daily passes and file criminal cases against them. It plans to reward public who give details on conductors violating rules.
