This supermodel’s face had launched a thousand products. A decade back, when Mehr Jessia Rampal walked the ramp, heads turned to have a look at this girl who stood tall. And when she came to Bangalore on Wednesday at the Garuda mall for the launch of the Pond’s Age Miracle, she was still standing tall. Casually careful and elegant.
“If I sit down, I would feel like a student answering queries,” she says when asked to take a seat. She shared her experience of using Pond’s Age Miracle products to combat aging.
“I tried the product and now I’m hooked on to it. It suits me great,” she shares and the sheen on her face explained it all.
Mehr, who runs her modelling agency ‘Face One’, recalls how different modelling was when she walked the ramp and how it is today. “The models have become robotic.”
Meaning they have nothing creative of their own to contribute. About anorexic models dropping dead or fainting on the ramp, she thinks for a while and says “I was not aware whether models were anorexic those days. The only thing I remember is how sometimes we keep tripping in our shoes. But the models are overworked these days.”
She continues, “You have it all — money, fame, a life of luxury and you get used to it. But then it is a short-lived profession.”
One of the very few models who kept away from Bollywood, she says, “that was not my cup of tea,” referring to acting. “Most of the models do take up the profession as a shortcut to Bollywood,” she agrees.
And then she bid adieu to the ramp, got married to Bollywood hearthrob Arjun Rampal and is now into running their production company, ‘Chasing Ganesha Films’. We are planning two movies. ‘Of course’, she adds, when asked whether Arjun would be starring in the movies.
A flashback into the past, for those unaware that apart from being a former Miss India, she has also had a soft spot for sports.
When asked whether sports is still part of her life, she says, “Earlier, I was into swimming a lot and into snooker as well. But right now I’m not really into it.” But yes she does inculcate the importance of it to her kids, she adds.
And her wardrobe sure is a cut from the rest. She says “you’ll always find me in casuals. And people do ask me why I am always in casuals.”
In her black trousers and white shirt wrapped in black shawl, devoid of any make-up, she looked the no-nonsense woman.
From being a supermodel to supermom, she says, “I couldn’t ask for more.” Obviously referring to her kids.
On her future plans, Mrs Rampal adds “we are planning instituting fashion awards. And I would keep on working on what I love and what I am passionate about.”
Whether being a brand ambassador, a production manager or running ‘Face One’, one thing she is not. “I am no socialite,” she sums it all.
